The Maps Supply Chain Management team within the Internet Services group is looking for a skilled, experienced, and motivated Data Scientist to help us discover patterns and quality issues with our local data sets. The data scientist will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining systems involving various techniques such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Large Scale Data Mining, Network Analysis, Information Retrieval, and Probabilistic Modeling. These skills are required for finding anomalies in large data sets, Pattern Recognition, Language Processing and Mining structured, semi-structured and unstructured data.

Key Qualifications:
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience with pattern recognition, natural language processing, and mining of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
  • Experience in data mining and predictive analytics using large data sets, preferably in GIS space.
  • Deep understanding of Machine Learning algorithms, tools, and technologies.
  • Experience with supervised and unsupervised modeling techniques.
  • Ability to work with incomplete and messy data to extract usable information.
  • Experience with accessing data stored in Oracle, PostgreSQL, or other RDBMS.
  • Experience with Apache Hadoop, Solr/Lucene, and related technologies.
  • Experience with accessing data stored Cassandra, HBase, or other NoSQL database is a plus.
  • Experience with machine learning tools and libraries such as Apache Mahout and Weka.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Hive, Pig, and other query languages.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods, mathematical modeling and business analytics.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team to find innovative solutions to challenging business and technical problems.
  • Attention to detail, data accuracy, and quality of output.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Results oriented and deadline driven.

  • Identify and collect data for analysis from existing internal and external public data sources.
  • Analyze data to build analytical models for solving local data quality and coverage issues.
  • Develop reports to deliver quality insights for local data around the world.
  • Create re-usable implementations of statistical tests and models for data mining.
  • Implement standard and proprietary algorithms for handling and processing the data.
  • Use Hadoop based environment for distributed data analysis and processing.
  • Work with engineers, architects, and managers to drive continuous data quality improvements.

  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics or Mathematics.
