Job Description:
L'Oreal R&I has expanded into connected beauty with the formation of our Incubator. With the large volume of data coming from new devices and applications, the analysis of such data is becoming an essential task for L'Oreal to increase product performance and improve the lives of our consumers. Developing insights based on this data should enable the business and researchers alike to better anticipate consumer needs.

As a Senior Data Scientist in the Incubator Organization, this position involves utilizing novel tools for "big data" science. The individual will work in the Hadoop environment to analyze large volumes of data, ultimately using statistical and data mining tools including clustering, classification, and regression models to understand and predict consumer needs. The Senior Data Scientist will present technical insights to management to inform product development.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Designs and implements data mining solutions, working within our existing cloud Hadoop architecture or on local machine as needed.
  • Writes programs/scripts to analyze data, working in Python, R, and MATLAB .
  • Works with IT architect to improve cloud Hadoop architecture as needed for research.
  • Builds a strategy for how data insights should be presented to the R&I laboratories, with data coming from connected devices all over the world.

  • PhD in Computer Science or Statistics with 3+ years experience; or MS with 5+ years of experience
  • Proven track record of delivering actionable results from large datasets
  • Strong background in statistics and machine learning (clustering, classification, and regression)
  • Programming Languages: Python, R, MATLAB
  • Familiarity with distributed computing (Hadoop, MapReduce)
  • Familiarity working in a Linux environment
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills for handling transversal projects
  • Must be able to work in the USA on an ongoing basis
