Barclays is recruiting a Chief Data Officer - Africa who will be responsible for leading the Data transformation of Barclays in Africa region, in order to provide a world-class Data Infrastructure and Applications enabling customer/client experience, underpinned by a lean cost base, strong controls and a culture of collaboration, innovation and high performance.

The Chief Data Officer- Africa will be part of the Data Systems & Insights (DSI) Function, led by Usama Fayyad, the Group-wide Chief Data Officer for Barclays whose vision is to establish Data as a strategic asset that drives customer/client loyalty and enabling business growth. The Chief Data Officer- Africa will be an extension of a high performing, driven team that spans four continents and supportive working culture with outstanding developmental possibilities to increase your potential. Within DSI you will have the opportunity to;
  • Lead a diverse set of disruptive, game-changing initiatives across the bank
  • Solve real, tough data challenges that impact millions of users
  • Create new revenue and growth opportunities for the businesses
  • Work with top industry experts in Data: from Infrastructure, to trading and risk to Data Science and BigData

 
Role requirements
  • Significant senior executive experience in a large scale global organisation with deep data expertise
  • Ability to provide a world-class customer/client experience, underpinned by a lean cost base, strong controls and a culture of collaboration, innovation and high performance.
  • Provide assurance to the Chief Data Officer, Barclays, shareholders, regulators and colleagues as to the effectiveness, efficiency and integrity of the DSI, Africa function.
  • An ability to bridge the technology and business worlds and a strong ability to engage business leaders to explain value of data, justify investment business cases, and drive new strategic game changers built on advanced Data capabilities
  • Very strong strategic vision coupled with execution and delivery to drive major transformational technology projects in Africa with close collaboration with distributed technology and operations teams across Barclays Group.
  • Track record of successfully leading:
  • A data function within a complex multi-national organisation;
  • Commercially proven, strategic innovations within a technological or Financial Services organisation, with an emphasis on new customer experiences;
  • Deep understanding of the client experience and customer value chain;
  • Must ensure technology continues to provide innovation for commercial and customer benefit, whilst retaining appropriate controls to ensure a secure and controlled environment;
  • High level of conceptual systems thinking that creates transformational innovations through synergies of new business models and new technologies; and
  • Track record of Strategic innovation and creating value for the business and ability to adapt innovation in other industries to the FS customer and regulatory environment.
