The Evaluation, Measurement and Verification team is looking for 2 new Energy Data Analysts!

This position works closely with internal and external clients to develop and maintain analytical tools. These tools will derive useful information from available data sources such as Smart Meter data, sub-meter data, etc. in support of efficiency projects.

Develops and supports systems, tools and engineering resources for all Evaluation, Measurement and Verification (EM&V) customers to ensure the accuracy, efficiency and integrity of energy information acquisition and interaction, and participates in other activities to ensure the delivery of high quality energy analysis and technical information to market teams, staff, and customers, while contributing to a mission-driven, creative, enjoyable and stimulating work environment.

  • Develops and maintains analytical tools to derive useful information from available data sources, such as Smart Meter (AMI) data, sub-meter and other sensor data, building operations and production data, public data,etc., in support of efficiency projects.
  • Exploratory analysis of large datasets, drawing insight and value from complex big data using statistical tools such as R, Python and Mathematica.
  • Completion of data analysis reports in support of business plans, initiatives and programs.
  • Delivery of complex ideas in a succinct manner to both internal and external stakeholders, in both written and presentation format.
  • Develops innovative analytical techniques, creatively meeting the needs of clients and customers.
  • Actively communicates with internal and external teams, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of projects, information and ideas.
  • Develops and maintains systems for energy data acquisition to ensure all required sources of bulk data are available for analysis and reporting.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains production-quality software systems and interfaces for data visualization and analysis. Responsible for aspects of software architecture, data architecture, user requirements, user interface/experience design, testing/QA, documentation, source code control, and release management.
  • Participates and provides support on organizational projects, such as R&D and Emerging Data Services initiatives.
  • Mentors, trains and advises staff on data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Continuously reviews and improves data acquisition and analysis systems and tools as needed.

  • Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of VEIC.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics, and/or computer science or related field.
  • A minimum of five years of related experience, preferably including at least three years of direct experience with data-centric software development, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Strong proficiency with data analysis and statistics, documentation of analysis procedures and functions, development of analysis tools.
  • Fluency in one or more programming languages, preferably Python.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining software in a production environment, including source code control (preferably with Git), testing and release plans, as well the use of bug/issue-tracking systems such as Jira.
  • Working knowledge of web software technologies, including HTML, CSS, Javascript, and modern web frameworks and ORMs. Proficiency with user-centered design a plus.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, building energy use, and energy analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with data acquisition software and concepts.
  • Proficiency with data visualization or charting software and concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and able to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Experience in applying energy data to measure characterization and with baseline studies is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to put together concise, articulate communications to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in facilitation, reviewing work of others, communications and the ability to develop and attain goals.
  • Experience training technical staff in analysis techniques and software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Skilled at knowing when to adapt to new challenges, processes and innovation. Demonstrated ability to assist management with productive development/implementation and adoption of new processes and measures.

Internal- Work is normally performed in climate controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of job duties.

External - Normal functions do not routinely require travel. Travel to special events and/or off site meetings required periodically.
