Blue Apron is seeking a Director of Business Intelligence to lead the data team in New York City. Since launching in late 2012, the business has grown dramatically to deliver north of a million meals nationwide each month. Understanding data is critical to growth and success of our business, whether it's accurately forecasting demand for suppliers, partners, and farms, analyzing customer trends and behavior, or identifying opportunities for efficiency at our fulfillment centers.

This individual will be responsible for the overall vision, strategy, and operation of the data and business intelligence practice. The successful candidate will work directly with the executive team and key stakeholders to bring actionable and inspiring insights and enable data-driven decision-making and validation of business goals and priorities. Above all, this individual will become an integral part of the business and play a key role in building, managing and mentoring our growing data engineering and analytics team.

  • Drive the vision, strategy, and execution of the company-wide Data Science and Business Intelligence function.
  • Build, organize, and lead a cross-disciplinary data team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop a comprehensive understanding of the key drivers and opportunities within the business.
  • Manage priorities and clearly communicate expectations to department heads and the executive team.
  • Establish processes, standards, and culture of a high-performing, analytically sophisticated research and development team.
  • Identify, scope, propose, and manage the analysis and interpretation data to support business decision-making.
  • Present actionable analyses and recommendations to senior executives and non-technical resources to drive business decisions.

Preferred Background
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Math, Finance, Marketing, Social Science, Computer Science or other related degree. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 5-7 years data science experience.
  • Ability to fully understand business goals and metrics and translate requirements into actionable analysis.
  • Working knowledge of data mining strategies, predictive modeling, and multivariate modeling preferred.
  • Proficiency with statistical software (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS), data visualization tools and business intelligence platforms.
  • Refined written and verbal communication skills that enable effective communication to non-technical audiences.
  • Must be comfortable with unstructured, fast-moving and constantly evolving high growth environment.
