Job Overview:
The Advanced Analytics function enables and empowers the Marketing Team with Quantitative Data Analysis, Deep Actionable Insights, Modeling, Algorithm Design and Advanced Test Plan Design and Analysis. As the leader of this team, the VP of Advanced Analytics is responsible for informing business and customer strategy, enabling and optimizing dynamic marketing and site capabilities, and for driving key customer, sales and efficiency KPI's. In addition, this role is responsible for developing progressive analytic strategies, multi-platform thought leadership, and for driving competitive advantage through leading and emerging analytic solutions and approaches to data. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:
  • Foster a focused and pragmatic approach to use advanced analytics and new technologies to drive productivity, sales and a superior customer experience.
  • Develop an advanced analytics organization that is future looking, adaptive and innovative. Guide and prioritize work of the team based on organizational readiness and benefit.
  • Collaborate with other areas of the Macys and analytical leaders to share and bring best practices as well as maximize the scope and benefit delivered
  • Guide marketing and merchandising strategies through sophisticated analysis on consumer behaviors, marketing and omni-channel activity. Provide multi-platform advanced analytics, insights, and recommendations.
  • Bring industry leading and best of breed approaches, methodologies and technologies to Macy's.
  • Focus on sustainable growth to deliver the best balanced business result and maximize sales. Identify and champion opportunities and approaches to support.
  • Drive continuous optimization and learning through ongoing and consistently integrated experimentation / testing. Socialize and incorporate learning's from post campaign closed loop post mortem and analytic program evaluation.
  • Work closely with marketing solutions and technical teams to integrate algorithms and approaches into production analytic and delivery mechanisms.
  • Assess appropriate vendor relationships related to advanced analytical tools, technology, and data acquisition, aggregation, and curating
  • Convert business ideas and research into actionable product releases with an emphasis on revenue and performance
  • Identify new opportunities in analytics space, including building roadmap and vision for analytics solutions, data and processes.
  • Guide, develop and support team. Establish clear objectives and framework to achieve across each team member. Recognize and develop talent.


  • Master's Degree in Operations Research, Economics, Applied Statistics or other Quantitative field required; Ph.D. Preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a leadership role in Applied Advanced Analytics with a focus on customer centric data methodology and new technologies in the digital space

Communication Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts and share sights in an audience aware fashion

Mathematical Skills
  • Proven ability to leverage data, quantitative analysis and advanced analytics to deliver actionable insights, guide strategic decisions and directly drive business results.
  • Experience with large data sets and advanced analytical tools.
  • Practical (vs. academic) experience / working knowledge of mathematical optimization, quantitative modeling, simulation techniques, probability, econometrics and statistics and how to apply to business applications.

Reasoning Ability
  • Experience delivering insight to internal or external business owners by building on a technical foundation that includes an understanding of modeling techniques and a strong grasp of statistics utilizing SAS, R or SPSS packages

Physical Demands
  • This position is located in San Francisco, CA. Some travel (less than 25%) required.

Other Skills
  • Broad working knowledge of customer segmentation methodology, lifecycle methodologies, engagement analysis and interactive marketing and approaches to personalization.
  • Self-driven innovative strategic thinker who is resourceful and has the ability to look beyond existing business and technology limitations. Ability to persuade, influence, and executes innovative methods and processes.
  • Strong leadership skills with a cross-platform mentality and approach. Ability to motivate, influence, collaborate and work in partnership within team as well as across the organization.
