This position will develop and build an ambitious portfolio of predictive modeling projects across the SEIU 775 Benefits Group. Particular focus areas include, but are not limited to, predicting student learning outcomes, developing matching algorithms to connect home care aides with their consumers, and personalizing care plans for individual long-term care consumers. Successful candidates will possess limitless curiosity and advanced proficiency with statistical analysis, machine learning techniques, and programming skills.

This role will require working with a team of operational specialists to solve interesting and challenging business projects using large-scale analytics and algorithms.

  • Design, develop, and program methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse "big data" sources to generate actionable insights;
  • Interact with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments;
  • Develop and code software programs, algorithms, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources; and
  • Identify meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interpret and communicate insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product and services team.

  • Master's degree in engineering, computer science, informatics, statistics, operations research, or related quantitative field Doctoral degree preferred
  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree must have at least seven years of experience
  • Hands-on experience in:
    • Data mining/ Machine Learning Algorithms
    • Application, statistical, conceptual, mathematical, modeling, and predictive analytic expertise (experience in health care a plus)
    • System/Data Integration
    • Data Visualization/Presentation


  • Demonstrated skill developing predictive models in healthcare settings and deploying solutions in relational databases;
  • Hands on experience with R and SAS, preferably in columnar or NoSQL databases;
  • Knowledge and application of the following programming languages desired: Python, R, SQL, SAS, Java, Pig, Julia, Unix Shell Scripting;
  • Demonstrated skill with Hadoop Framework desired: HDFS Architecture, Parquet Files, Hive, HBase, HCatalog, Apache Spark;
  • Knowledge and application of the following Visualization tools is desired: R Visualization, Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, Qlikview, Spotfire.
  • Knowledge of geographic information system (GIS) is a plus;
  • Demonstrated skill in writing for scientific publishing is preferred;
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned project from start to finish;
  • Interest in taking on a leadership role as the research team grows;
  • Ability to work quickly and independently with minimal guidance or oversight;
  • Willingness to tackle complex, often unfamiliar research requests;
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills across diverse stakeholder and customer groups;
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask in a fast-paced environment; and
  • Proven ability to make quick and informed decisions under very tight deadlines.
