Job Description
The Boeing Company is seeking a Software Engineer with experience in Java to support both commercial and defense programs. The successful candidate will become part of our growing Boeing Research & Technology Team in Huntsville, AL and work in the new Center for Applied Simulation and Analytics (CASA) Lab.

The successful candidate will develop code that helps to process, visualize, and analyze Big Data. The applicant should be able to write code that will process raw files, perform data standardization, and output clean data to a database. Depending on the nature of the data, either a relational database, such as MS SQL Server or MySQL, or a distributed file system such as Hadoop will be used.

Applicants should be familiar with data visualization tools, such as JFreeChart, R, or Tableau. The main goal is to integrate many data sources to create easy to understand data visualization tools for the analysis and presentation of Big Data.

The ability to understand, simplify, and present the data analysis is a key to performing well in this position. Candidates should expect unique analysis needs that require creative problem solving. The successful candidate should also have experience with machine learning, autonomous data mining, and discovering correlation trends.

This position requires an active (or ability to obtain) U.S. Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. ยง 120.15 is required.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's and/ or Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering with a GPA of 3.0 is highly preferred.
  • The successful completion of at least two semesters of college level calculus coursework, pre-calculus not included, is required.
  • Candidates should have experience with an object oriented programming language such as Java, C#, C++, or VB.NET. Applicants should be familiar with writing either SQL queries or MapReduce scripts. Candidates must have experience with relational or distributed databases.
  • The successful candidate should be able to communicate well with other Software Engineers, Systems Engineers, Data Scientists, User Experience Professionals, and other members of our diverse and distributed team.
  • Applicants should have some experience working with Big Data; data standardization, data reduction, data clustering, regression trees, anomaly detection, and other data identification / analysis algorithms. Experience creating custom data charts/ graphs is required.

 
Typical Education and/or Experience:

Level 1 - Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 2 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience or a Master's degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
