The machine learning team sits at the heart of our technology, and delivers on the core brand promise of bringing rocket science to make advertising more rational and effective. Senior scientists on this team have team and project leadership responsibilities as "principal investigators" in addition to their value as individual contributors.

What you will do:
  • Apply your advanced machine learning and software expertise to research and develop state-of-the-art predictive models and optimization algorithms for ad targeting and bidding on active ad exchanges
  • Explore billions of records across petabytes of data for patterns in audiences, environments and messages by leveraging a plethora of attributes, and build + improve models that can operate at this scale
  • Collaborate with our Analysts and Marketing teams to understand client goals, and collaborate with our Engineering team to turn research into products
  • Work in a uniquely high-scale global business with 10 Billion advertising opportunities a day to score for response prediction
  • Impact a business where a 10% algorithm improvement can mean 10% incremental net revenues instantly
  • Stay current, maintain world-class credentials, and contribute to developments in the field
  • Mentor and provide leadership to other Machine Learning Scientists.

What you need:
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations research or related fields, or M.S. plus 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience and ability:
    • Senior level Machine Learning industry experience, and/or
    • Comparable expertise developed in academia, and/or
    • Brilliant, top PhD student at a leading university who can immediately contribute and be compensated at this senior industry level

  • Track record identifying key insights with large data sets and large-scale data analysis
  • Expertise in Machine Learning techniques such as logistic regression, naive Bayes, SVM, decision trees, neural networks, and random forests
  • Structured thinker that can clearly articulate thoughts both written and orally
  • Software development experience with Java (or C++) on Linux
  • Prototyping and scripting skills (Perl, Python, Matlab or R)
  • Experience with large-scale datasets, map reduce architectures, and big data techniques (such as Hadoop, MapReduce, Pig, Hive, Hbase, Spark)
  • Interest and proven success mentoring and providing technical leadership to others

Nice to have:
  • Experience with behavioral targeting and online advertising / marketing
