Amazon: Machine Learning – Technical Project Manager (TPM)

The Amazon machine learning team's goal is to make machine learning accessible to developers of all skill levels. You will own and drive key programs for building machine learning solutions to high-impact business problems.

Amazon Company: Amazon
Location: Seattle, WA
Web: www.amazon.com

The mission of AWS's Amazon Machine Learning team is to make machine learning accessible to developers of all skill levels. By abstracting away the complexity inherent in machine learning and automating many of the manual, repetitive and error prone steps, we accelerate the applied machine learning process and enable non-experts to solve many common business problems using predictive models.

In this role, you will own and drive key programs for building machine learning solutions to high-impact business problems. You will collaborate with other TPM's and work closely with our customers to understand their requirements and needs, generate ideas, define requirements, create technical specifications, oversee development, quality assurance and product delivery.

This is a highly visible role that requires experience working with senior management and technical depth for removing development road blocks. In this role you will be responsible for scoping complex projects and delivering simple, elegant solutions by collecting product and business requirements, driving the development schedule from design to release, making appropriate tradeoffs to optimize time-to-market, and clearly communicating goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal cross-functional teams. You will interact with a broad cross section of the Amazon organization as you clarify ambiguous issues and negotiate effective technical solutions between development and business teams to ensure on-time product delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Interact with multiple business, technical and operations teams to define and deliver new and innovative solutions and products, as well as drive improvements to existing features and products
  • Design product requirements based on business and technical needs, write product/process specifications, and drive product/process development.
  • Manage the prioritization and backlog of feature requests and conduct scoping estimates
  • Identify, assess, track and mitigate issues and risks at multiple levels.
  • Anticipate and help resolve bottlenecks, provide escalation management, and make tradeoffs by balancing the business needs against technical constraints.
  • Track, maintain and disseminate project information to stakeholders in a concise and professional manner
  • Create and own product metrics and perform appropriate analyses to provide data for driving improvements and enhancements to the product.
  • Help develop ML models to quickly and accurately test and measure new ideas to determine effectiveness

Minimum qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in a technical field (e.g. computer science, engineering)
  • Prior experience in program management and/or product development in software engineering
  • Proven track record of successful system implementations utilizing varied project management methodologies.
  • Sound business judgment, a proven ability to influence others, strong technical acumen, and strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to comfortably work in a fast paced, often ambiguous environment
  • Excellent time management, resource management, prioritization and planning skills

Preferred qualifications
  • A graduate degree in CS or Engineering
  • Exposure to machine learning, data mining or data analytics products and solutions
  • Prior software development experience, especially with highly scalable and distributed systems
