Barclays is recruiting a
Data Director
who will be responsible for leading the Data transformation of Barclaycard in the US region, in order to provide a world-class Data Infrastructure and Applications enabling customer/client experience, underpinned by a lean cost base, strong controls and a culture of collaboration, innovation and high performance.
The Data Director will be part of the
Data Systems & Insights (DSI)
Function, led by
Usama Fayyad, the Group-wide Chief Data Officer for Barclays whose vision is to establish Data as a strategic asset that drives customer/client loyalty and enabling business growth. The Data Director will be an extension of a high performing, driven team that spans four continents and supportive working culture with outstanding developmental possibilities to increase your potential.
Within DSI you will have the opportunity to;
- Lead a diverse set of disruptive, game-changing initiatives across the bank
- Solve real, tough data challenges that impact millions of users
- Create new revenue and growth opportunities for the businesses
- Work with top industry experts in Data: from Infrastructure, to trading and risk to Data Science and BigData
Accountabilities
- Deliver a world class Data capability which enables the business to realise value through consistent, accurate, reliable and high quality data and leading edge Data storage, reporting and analytical tools
- Development and delivery of a world class Big Data environment to enable a step change of insight into the high volumes of data across the Barclaycard US estate
- Drive changes to Data capabilities that anticipate changes to the business' strategic direction leveraging the full capabilities in the Data Systems & Insights Centres of Excellence
- Be an inspiring leader, mentor and coach for the Data team and an active member of the DSI, Barclaycard and Operations and Technology leadership team.
- Accountable for building and leading across Barclaycard US business and have budget responsibility for circa $10m+
Role requirements
- Ability to create a compelling vision for Data for business areas and develop a clear strategy to deliver on the vision
- Ability to work with and extract maximum value from Data technology suppliers and consultancy practices
- Experience of how the businesses use data and information to deliver value. Ability to focus on what really matters to the business
- Experience in cross-function leadership/management, including budgeting, reporting and managing/leading cross-functional teams populated with a high proportion of IT/technical specialists, achieving alignment and buy-in to delivery when this might oblige individuals and work groups to change or add to their daily job content
- Data Technology literate with a detailed understanding of the Data Technology Architecture, Data development lifecycle and Data tools and technologies, in particular in memory/in database and open source technology (eg. Hadoop, Pig, Hive, mahout, SQL, Python, Java, R, SAS)
- BI technology literate with a detailed understanding of tools and technology (eg. Cognos, BusinessObjects, Microsoft SRSS, Qlikview, Tableau, Spotfire)
- Experience of advanced data analytics and insights techniques (eg, predictive, segmentation, recommendation and sentiment analytics, machine learning techniques and leveraging structured and unstructured data)
- Experience of lean and agile methodologies
- BSc/BA or equivalent in math/science/engineering
- 7+ years program/project management experience
- 7+ years technical/data experience
