Description

The Operations Research and Advanced Analytics Department at American Airlines currently has an opening for an OR Consultant/Senior Consultant. Positioned within the Information Technology organization, this department functions as an internal consulting group providing quantitative analysis and decision support throughout the airline. Assignments within OR typically involve quantitative and qualitative analysis of a business situation, model prototyping, development of recommendations, and written and/or oral presentation of those recommendations.

Quantitative techniques utilized may include forecasting, mathematical programming and other optimization techniques, simulation, stochastic modeling, data mining, decision analysis, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data visualization. A significant component of many assignments will be the implementation of prototype solutions using third-party optimization software, statistical analysis tools (e.g. SAS, R), and programming languages such as SQL, Java, and C++.

Qualifications

An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is required. Candidates with a MS degree require 2 years of relevant work experience in an analytical role.

Successful candidates will have a demonstrated aptitude for logical analysis, problem identification, and problem solving as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The ability to use computer-based tools and programming languages to implement solutions is required.

Strong experience with Big Data, SAS Enterprise Miner, R, writing complex SQL queries, or experience with other data mining packages is a plus.

Knowledge of text mining principles and techniques is highly desired.

Experience solving large-scale problems and familiarity with the airline industry is a plus.
