Our Opportunity:

The Analytics & Business Insight (ABI) organization supports multiple business units across Schwab through quantitative-based decision support. Our mission is to help Schwab better understand the needs and behaviors of our prospects and clients through statistical analysis, predictive modeling, market research, and business intelligence.

Our analytical teams within ABI provide the organization with advanced quantitative analyses and insights that help guide development of new product/service offerings, better target prospects and clients through informed marketing efforts, increase acquisition of desired prospects, understand the ROI of advertising and marketing promotions, measure and assess the impact of business strategies, and identify strategies to grow client engagement, retention, and loyalty. Our analytical services are in heavy demand as our team is a critical component in Schwab's commitment to being a leading data-driven organization.

What you'll do:

The Director, Data Science will use data mining and advanced statistical methods to provide decision makers across Schwab with insights and solutions to important business projects. This position will use a wide range of statistical analysis and modeling techniques including ANOVA, design of experiment, time series regression, segmentation, predictive modeling, data mining, econometric modeling, marketing mix modeling, and other analytical approaches. In addition, the position will also work on big data analytics such as journey analytics, attribution modeling, text mining and categorization, speech analytics, geo-spatial analytics, recommendation engine algorithms, and machine learning.

There will be a diverse set of analytical applications and project areas that this position will be responsible for. This includes areas such as:
  • Data mining applications using large unstructured databases
  • Predictive modeling for acquisition, retention and asset consolidation
  • Statistical based segmentation using behavioral and attitudinal data
  • Business impact analyses to help the firm determine the ROI on strategic investments
  • Customer lifetime value analysis and modeling
  • Branch network analytics leveraging geo-spatial data and tools.
  • Next best offer and recommendation engine analytics.

 
Responsibilities include:
  • Provide analytical leadership and vision on using analytics in a big data environment to uncover new insights that drive decisions that impact the business
  • Support multiple business partners on a wide range of advanced analytics projects
  • Consult with business partners helping define their needs and prioritize efforts.
  • Fully scope analytics projects including identifying resources needed, determining analysis/modeling approach, and development of execution plan.
  • Work independently or collaboratively throughout the complete analytics project lifecycle including data extraction/preparation, statistical analysis/modeling, and presentation of results.
  • Clearly communicate methodologies and results to increase our business partners' understanding and confidence in Advanced Analytics findings and capabilities.
  • Work with market researchers, business intelligence staff, decision support managers and our business partners to align and integrate our efforts.
  • Provide statistical consultation by partnering with cross-functional teams and decision makers to frame and solve complex business problems.

 
What you have:
  • Masters or doctoral degree in statistics, economics, mathematics, operations research or related field.
  • 10 years or more work experience in an advanced analytics consulting role (consulting to external clients and/or internal business partners).
  • Strong SAS (including macro programming), R, Python and SQL programming and data processing experience.
  • Solid understanding of regression modeling using either SAS or R frameworks (logistic, survival, and the full family of generalized linear models).
  • General understanding of machine learning algorithms and their appropriate use.
  • Experience with Hadoop databases including ability to program in Hive, Python, etc.
  • Experience with geo-spatial analytics leveraging tools such as Alteryx and experience with GIS datasets preferred.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; skill & interest in communicating with senior levels of management.
  • Must be able to clearly understand and articulate the linkage between business objectives/ decisions and analytical approaches & findings.
  • Must possess strong interview/consulting skills to probe deep into questions, the broad analytic skill set to ensure they are solved appropriately and the narrative skills to recommend action steps.
  • Must possess a love for problem solving and genuinely enjoy helping our business partners succeed.
  • Financial services experience preferred.
