Responsibilities

The purpose of the role is to lead a team that drives the overarching analytics strategy for the wireless supply chain distribution, ensuring data-driven decisions that enable more profitable growth and improved customer experience. This role will have the autonomy to define the analytics strategy of Verizon's Wireless Supply Chain.

The successful candidate will oversee a team of analytics experts responsible for leveraging statistics, optimization and simulation to propel paradigm shifts across the entire company. The Sr. Manager of Advanced Analytics will be part of a leading-edge team responsible for initiating and executing strategic efforts across the Supply Chain organization, leveraging advanced analytics to optimize processes and procedures that lead to more effective order routing, transportation, working capital optimization , cost reduction and service levels

Build and lead a team of advanced analytics composed of Sr. data scientists, data scientists and data analysts that support the ongoing business operation of Verizon Wireless supply chain.
  • Grow the team analytics capabilities, ensure consistency and quality of analytical output the team is generating and alignment to the business needs
  • Seeking experince in Predictive and Prescriptive Analytics
  • Define the team strategy and modeling approach while supporting the organization
  • Cross train the team to allow full support when team members are on vacation or extra resources are required
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain leadership and other key partners to identify current business challenges and potential root-causes
  • Be part of the Supply Chain operational teams (e.g., supply & replenishment planning, distribution & logistics) to support advanced analytics to solve ongoing business needs
  • Identify and present business cases for highest opportunities for improving the VzW supply chain processes using advanced analytical methods and domain expertise
  • Translate a supply chain challenge into an analytical problem, relaying results in common business language with managerial implications
  • Design and implement creative approaches to predictive modeling problems
  • Perform model assessments, validation, and enhancement activities
  • Partner with IT to effectively migrate analytical models from prototype to production
  • Drive adoption and application of analytical model results with business partners, ensuring benefits realized
  • Track and report success metrics for projects and their impact on key supply chain KPIs
  • Supply research/analysis information to department/executive staff
  • Maintain a working knowledge of data mining and visualization best practices

 
Qualifications

The Sr. Manager interacts with various Verizon Wireless teams like supply planning & distribution (supply chain), distribution & transportation (supply chain), forecasting (device marketing), assortment planning (device marketing and merchandising). The candidate should 2+ years of team leading experience, preferably of an analytical oriented team.

He/She is a skilled expert in quantitative modeling, statistics, data mining and visualization. The role requires strong familiarity and hand-on experience with SQL and statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS or SPSS), and 5+ years of experience in developing and implementing analytical models in business. We prefer that the candidate has experience with data visualization software like Qlikview, Tableau or Excel, and is familiar with creating analytical data sets. Finally, the senior manager should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be proficient in engaging and influencing large teams and functional leaders.

Required:
  • Master's degree in Supply Chain, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Economics or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in leading analytical team
  • 3+ years of experience in developing and implementing analytical models in business
  • Strong familiarity and hand-on experience with SQL and statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS or SPSS)
  • Coding skills (for personal use) in a general-purpose programming language (e.g., C/C++, Java or Python)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in engaging and influencing large teams and functional leaders

 
Preferred
  • PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Economics or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience in leading analytical team
  • 5+ years of experience in developing and implementing analytical models in business
  • Familiarity and experience with data visualization software like Qlikview, Tableau or Excel
  • Familiarity and experience with creating analytical data sets
  • Experience and competency in supply chain management
  • Certified Analytics Professional
