The Data Visualization Scientist will drive delivery of data visualizations to actively support and advance innovative research activities. The candidate will work closely with Pioneer researchers across multiple domains who are engaged in projects involving complex and/or heterogeneous data sets related to agricultural science and product pipelines.

Working as part of the Business Intelligence team, the candidate will translate requirements into designs that BI software developers will use to build and deploy visualizations in cutting-edge reporting tools. Visualizations for bioinformatics, breeding populations, geospatial, environmental, and agronomic performance data sets are some of the many examples. Highly creative individuals who enjoy tackling complex problems and stretching the limits of conventional scientific understanding are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Work closely with multiple research groups to understand their research goals and design visualizations that help answer scientific questions
  • Investigate complex data sets and propose existing visualization types or new visualizations that can be used by researchers to draw scientific conclusions
  • Translate reporting needs into technical requirements that BI software developers can use to create visualizations and integrate them into reports
  • Identify and develop relationships with researchers and staff to facilitate collaborations, understand new research trends, and improve existing reporting
  • Work iteratively with scientists to gauge effectiveness of visualizations and propose modifications when necessary
  • Remain on the cutting-edge of scientific and biological advancements by participating in professional meetings and career development activities
  • PhD in plant science, genetics, genomics, molecular biology, or a related scientific field
  • Experience designing outstanding, appealing visualizations of complex scientific data sets
  • Minimum 2 years of industry-related experience preferred, which may include post-doctoral experience
  • Strong aptitude with computers, data organization, and data analysis
  • Strong leadership and communication skills required
  • Experience working with software visualization technologies such as D3, JQuery, HTML5, CSS, or JavaScript is a plus
  • Experience working with business intelligence or reporting tools like MicroStrategy or TIBCO Spotfire is a plus
