This project is run by the Planetary Society, which operated the 8.4 million channel system since 1985. The society was founded by Carl Sagan to support space exploration and search for extraterrestrial life. " The Planetary Society is currently conducting a campaign to get the funds to support the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. This is confirmed by the large participation in the first Seminar on this topic arranged in 1992 by the Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat) and the German National Research Center for Computer Science (GMD). The purpose of NTTS-95, as before, is to provide a forum for researchers and (official) statisticians to present and discuss new ideas and developments in the application of information and communication technologies for statistics. The main topics of interest will include: 1 Survey design and data capture - questionnaire design - computer assisted data capture - use of EDI and telematics - remote sensing - exploitation of administrative and other data sources - missing values - nomenclature systems including automatic coding 2 Data analysis and knowledge extraction - knowledge extraction - concept formation, manipulation, and analysis - exploitation of contextual information - analysis of time referenced data - analysis of spatial data - small area estimation - visualization techniques 3 Dissemination of results and knowledge - electronic dissemination including multi-media - integration with other telematics services The aim is to bring together researchers and users of these techniques, including those working on 4th Framework R&D projects, to share experience, knowledge and enthusiasm in both formal and informal environments. Presentation Formats Presentations may have the following formats: - Individual presentations concerning a specific topic (30 minutes) - Demonstrations of software products and prototypes The program will also include invited talks and panel discussions. The conference proceedings will be published. Pre-Proceedings will be available at the conference. Please submit 3 hardcopies of a short paper (a maximum of 12 single-spaced pages, 1 inch margins, and 12pt font, cover page must show author(s) full address and e-mail and include 200 word abstract + 5 keywords) to reach the local organization on or before June 16, 1995. Alternatively, the submission of an electronic version (postscript or LaTeX) of a paper is possible. For software demonstrations, short proposals (1 page) should be submitted. Submissions Due: June 16, 1995 Acceptance Notice: August 31, 1995 Revised versions must be available by October 6, 1995 Conference Language: English Conference Location: Gustav-Stresemann-Institue, Bonn, Germany WWW: This Call for Paper can also be found on WWW: http://orgwis.gmd.de/explora/ntts.html This www page will be updated when relevant information is available.
