An ideal tutorial should stimulate synergy among the main sub-communities in knowledge discovery, i.e. databases, machine learning, statistics, and visualization. It may discuss novel data mining techniques, successful application areas, and/or theme-oriented comprehensive surveys. IMPORTANT DATES February 28th : Tutorial proposals (kloesgen@gmd.de, postscript preferred) March 14th : Notification of acceptance/rejection September 13th: Tutorials PROPOSAL DETAILS: 1) Apart from the title of the proposal, it must clearly identify the intended audience, e.g., novice learners of statistical techniques, expert researchers of classification. 2) The proposal must identify the provisional amount of time intended. For PKDD-2000, tutorials may be 2-hour, 3-hour or 4-hour long. 3) Enough materials should be included in the proposal to provide a sense of both the scope and depth of the tutorial. 4) The proposal should include a short biography of each tutor (including Web address). For the proposed subject matter, the tutor must have appropriate qualification. The tutor must NOT focus mainly on his/her research results.
