Subject: Imaging, Visualization and Computational intelligence, deadline Mar 15, 2002

Technical session "Imaging, Visualization and Computational intelligence" to be held in conjunction with

The 2001 International Conference on Imaging Science, Systems, and Technology (CISST'2002) and

The 2002 International Multiconferences in Computer Science June 24 - 27, 2002, Monte Carlo Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Imaging analysis is critical for many decision-making problems. Computational intelligence and visualization methods are important tools for decision support in imaging science. The goal of this session is to discuss blending of these areas to improve decision making for variety of applications from medical imaging to defense and manufacturing. In 2001, participants in this session came from universities, National Labs, other US Government organizations, and industry discussed the role of these methods for:

Registration, conflation and fusion of imagery and maps with different resolution and associated possibly contradictory information, and Support of geospatial information analysis tasks using computational intelligence and visualization tools.

This year we plan to expand these subjects covering

Support of medical and industrial imaging decision making,
General problems of decision making based on imagery analysis, and
Design of XML-type semantic languages for imagery analysis.

Computational intelligence methods such as data mining, expert mining, machine learning, reasoning strategies, expert systems, fuzzy logic and neural networks discover hidden patterns and visualization methods present them to domain experts in an appropriate form. On the other hand, visualization helps domain experts to discover hidden patterns (correlations) directly augmenting computational intelligence methods. For domain experts discovering and visualization of hidden patterns is important but only a part of their decision making process. This session invites papers, which will address problems of decision support in imagery analysis including but not restricted by topics listed above.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS

Prospective authors are invited to submit their draft paper (about 4 to 5 pages) to session organizers Boris Kovalerchuk or Jim Schwing by March 15, 2002.
