FeaturesFrom: Gregory Piatetsky-Shapiro Date: April 22, 2002 Subject: Poll Results: US/Canada data miners income and status The most recent poll was addressed to US/Canada data miners -- and asked their status if student or unemployed, and annual income range (in thousands of US $) if employed. The results, based on 161 votes, are student 23% unemployed 9% 60,000 or less 9% 61 to 80 16% 81 to 100 19% 101 to 120 11% over 120 13%While the results should not be considered scientific because the sample is self-selected, it is interesting to compare this poll to the same done in 2001 (see www.kdnuggets.com/polls/2001/us_data_miners_income.htm) We see that unemployment rate in 2002 is twice as high (9% vs 4%), and also there is a higher percentage of students -- perhaps some unemployed data miners went back to school. There are also fewer entries in the highest salary ranges, and more in the lower salary ranges. Despite that, the estimated median income in 2002 rose to about 91,000 from about 88,000 in 2001. |
