Subject: Poll results: Your Primary Occupation

The past KDnuggets poll asked "What is your primary occupation?"

The distribution, based on about 300 votes,

  • 29% industry data miner/statistician
  • 25% student
  • 12% academic researcher
  • 12% software developer
  • 11% business consultant
  • 6% manager
  • 5% other
Compared to distribution of KDnuggets News subscriber, students are overrepresented, since they tend to vote more frequently in polls.

This distribution is surprisingly similar to one in a similar poll taken in Apr 2001 (see www.kdnuggets.com/polls/2001/occupation.htm)

Some differences are:

Fewer people (12%) selected "academic researcher" in 2002 than selected "researcher" (16%) w in 2001

More people selected "business consultant" (11%) in 2002 than in 2001 (8%).
