Subject: San Jose, CA: Manager, Global Metrics at eBay
The Manager, Global Metrics will report to the Director of Global
Metrics, and manage 1-2 employees. The Global Metrics team is
dedicated to the conception, design, and publication of standard
reports, analytical tools, and forecasting systems related to activity
on the eBay website. The Manager will focus on:
- Conducting quantitative research on the key drivers of eBay's business
- Creating reports, analysis tools, and forecast systems geared to business users
- Educating business users on data interpretation and analysis methods
Key Day-to-Day Responsibilities/Skills of Manager:
- Management of 1-2 members of Global Metrics Team - Manage professionals at the Project Manager Level and below, who have highly quantitative, analytical, and technical backgrounds. The Manager should possess significant prior experience (ideally 3-5-plus years) in managing such resources.
- Cross-functional management - Build and manage strong relationships around the company with internal customers and support functions. The Manager and team will work closely with Finance and Business Units to identify and prioritize analytical needs, and translate them into report requirements, as well as with IT to deliver against the requirements and ensure internal customer satisfaction. In this role, the Manager will be required to translate business concepts into technical specifications, leveraging strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Strong analytical skills - The Manager will be expected design and lead the execution of sophisticated quantitative analyses and forecasts that translate eBay's data into digestible and actionable insights. This role requires a strong understanding of quantitative disciplines (statistics, mathematics, finance).
- Strong presentation skills (oral and written) - The Manager will be required to present extensively to internal customers. This requires the Manager to have excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex quantitative information into presentations that are easily understood by general management.
Master's degree or advanced certification in quantitative methods
(Masters in Statistics, CFA, or quantitative-oriented MBA) and a
minimum of 10 years' work experience in a relevant field, preferably
within the Finance or Quantitative Research organization - financial
forecasting experience is a plus. Proven ability to manage people and
complex projects. Strong written and verbal communications skills,
and the ability to present to large groups of people on a regular
basis. High energy/creativity, a relentless customer-focus, an
entrepreneurial spirit, a deep practical understanding of quantitative
methods, and superb attention to detail.
