Subject: US Nationwide (50% travel): Sales Engineer - Data Mining / Statistics at SPSS

We currently seek a Sales Engineer who will work closely with sales reps to demonstrate to prospects how our products solve real world business problems. This involves participating on sales conference calls and prospect visits, doing product demonstrations frequently using prospect data, and working with prospects at both a technical and business level to show how our solutions can provide value to them.


In addition, you will:

  • Be able to perform convincing presentations/demonstrations showing the capabilities of SPSS solutions, and furthermore show on both a business and technical level how SPSS solutions provide value.
  • Possess demonstrated skills in the application of solution selling and a proven track record using it to help drive revenue.
  • Be able to work at senior level with sales reps to strategize on sales approaches to develop business.
  • Be completely at ease with customers and prospects regardless of level of individuals having discussions with.
  • Work independently

Requirements include:
  • 5+ years of experience in sales, support, development, pre-sales support, or real world use of data analysis/data mining solutions.
  • Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in statistics, social sciences, market research, operations research, or related quantitative discipline. A strong business and analytic background may substitute for the advanced degree.
  • 2-3 years work experience in Data Mining; experience in retail, telco, financial services, or insurance a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of multiple modeling techniques including neural nets, decision trees, clustering and association analysis, rule induction, etc. as well as classic multivariate statistics.
  • Confident visiting prospects or customers - able to converse with individuals at various levels.
  • Knowledge of Clementine and SPSS software a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally as a vital member of the team.
  • Proven ability to architect production data mining systems a plus.
  • Experience in e-business and web technology projects a plus.
  • Experience with MS Sequel Server and/or Oracle databases a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated skills in the application of solution selling. Able to work with sales rep to traverse 9 boxes, find pain, quantify pain, and move process forward
  • Follows lead of sales rep but is expected to give sales rep insights and ideas to help get business.
  • Some understanding of and training in relational databases.
  • Solid technical skills with operating systems; in particular Windows 98, NT, and Unix
  • Domestic travel required. Approximately 50%
