LinKFactory® Ontology Tool for Use in Patient Safety Network Project

Philadelphia, June 23, 2003 - Language and Computing, Inc. (L&C) announced today that its LinKFactory® advanced ontology development and management tool has been selected for use in developing the National Patient Safety Network, a project of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Patient Safety Task Force. LinKFactory® was selected based on a complete and thorough evaluation of available tools conducted by the KEVRIC Company, the system integrator and bio-informatics specialist on the project.

The KEVRIC Company was awarded a two-year, $5.9 million contract to develop the National Patient Safety Network for HHS and the Patient Safety Task Force, which includes the Agency for Health Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). (HHS press release, 11/25/02). The KEVRIC Company will use LinKFactory® in developing a new Web-based system that will integrate and simplify existing systems now operated by these agencies to collect patient safety data, making the systems easier for frontline medical care providers to use.
