Artprice Knowledge - Behavioural Data Mining for the Art Market

PARIS, July 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- With 900,000 clients and over a billion internet searches conducted through our site per year, Artprice possesses a unique database which has been gleaned from hundreds of millions of artist search sessions. As of July this year, and after several years of R&D, we are able to systematically process and analyse all of this information using a behavioural art market data bank baptised Artprice Knowledge (R). The first application of this database will be to identify, for any given artist, the other artists his/her clients may be interested in.

Artprice Knowledge(R) goes beyond the technique of grouping artists in terms of art movements based on historically defined aesthetic and theoretical criteria, by enabling artists to be grouped according to the tastes of art buyers and collectors.

Whereas until now, art history has been the only means of academically classifying major art movements and currents, Artprice Knowledge can now be used to identify artists by any set of criteria. For example, it can be used to identify affinity-based groupings, for artists in the same sphere, displaying similarities in terms of say aesthetics, creative periods, nationalities and techniques, and thus going way beyond traditional art history classifications.
