Subject: 19 Lectures & more for 1-semester Data Mining course, freely available

I am pleased to announce www.kdnuggets.com/data_mining_course site which contains a set of teaching modules for a complete 1-semester course (19 lectures) on Data Mining, suitable for advanced undergraduates or first-year graduate students. The teaching modules are freely available and include lectures, assignments, a final project, and more.

The modules were created by Dr. Gregory Piatetsky-Shapiro (KDnuggets) and Prof. Gary Parker (Connecticut College), with help from Janet Hayes and others, under a generous grant from W. M. Keck Foundation and Howard Hughes Medical Institute, as part of Connecticut College Series of Modules in Emerging Fields.

These modules are presented in PowerPoint to facilitate individual modifications and are distributed via www.kdnuggets.com/data_mining_course/ and are also available on a CD, free of charge, to interested professors and instructors.

Data Mining is an exciting field for computer science students to study. It is both an active area of research and a great field for employment opportunities. It is our hope that schools that do not have faculty with the expertise to teach data mining will now have the opportunity to offer a data mining course or at least be able to cover some part of it in their curriculum.

Happy Discoveries!

Gregory Piatetsky-Shapiro and Gary Parker, 2004.
