Subject: Software: PermutMatrix a graphical environment for seriation and clustering

PermutMatrix is a user-friendly and exploratory work space designed to graphically perform data mining tasks like clustering and seriation analysis.

It implements several types of hierarchical cluster analysis and several methods to find an optimal reorganization of rows and columns of a numerical dataset.

Several methods are proposed for optimal reorganization of the leaves of a hierarchical clustering tree, along with several seriation or unidimensional scaling methods which do not require any preliminary hierarchical clustering.

In many cases, optimal reordering methods could be very useful for data mining, and data analysis.
It has been widely used for many years in archaeology, biology, sociology psychology and operational research.

PermutMatrix developed for MS Windows has a clear and efficient graphical interface.

It is free and available at http://www.lirmm.fr/~caraux/PermutMatrix/ with practical information about methods, a download area, directions for use and exemples.

A short presentation of this software has been published in Bioinformatics (2005), Vol. 21, pages : 1280-1281.
