Subject: Data Mining Tools Used in 2005

The previous KDnuggets Poll asked: What Data mining/Analytic tools you used in 2005 ?

To reduce possible voting fraud, the poll used an email confirmation system, so number of responders in 2005 was only about 57% of 2004, but the results can be considered more objective.

The most popular tools among KDnuggets readers were

  • SPSS Clementine, 135 votes
  • SPSS, 96 votes
  • Excel, 78 votes
  • CART/ MARS/ TreeNet/ Random Forests, 69 votes
  • SAS, 53 votes
  • SAS Enterprise Miner, 49 votes.
Here are full results and comments for 2005 KDnuggets Poll: Data Mining Tools You Used in 2005.

Here are the results of a similar 2004 poll on Data mining software you use frequently.

One discussion concerned the use of Excel -- whether it was used for complete data mining projects (with a modeling add-in) or as aid in data analysis?

Based on analysis of votes, it seems that the latter (aid in data analysis) is more likely, since only 1 person voted for only Excel.
