RiverGlass Inc., a spin-off company from NCSA (National Center for Supercomputing Applications), has an immediate opening for Research Engineer in our Champaign office. RiverGlass (www.riverglassinc.com) develops powerful software for real-time streaming data analysis and visualization.

The primary goal of this position is the development and implementation of commercial-grade machine learning and data mining algorithms for RiverGlass applications. This includes identifying and modifying existing algorithms, code implementation, testing, and maintenance. Development will be done in Java and/or Common Lisp and will integrate with the development environment D2K unless specified otherwise.

Requirements in the area of Data Analytics include:

• Responsible for the design and implementation of algorithms for the classification and mining of structured and unstructured data streams. This includes: using supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques to find patterns and relationships in the data, classification, clustering, detection of anomalies, information indexing and retrieval, and data visualization and summarization.
• Familiarity with the latest modeling techniques and tools.
• Analyzing and understanding large amounts of data for specific pattern and trend analysis
• Data pre-processing for analysis, including clean-up and filtering
• Pattern identification, feature extraction, and feature (variable) selection
• Experimenting with different types of algorithms and modeling techniques to identify patterns and trends
• Analyzing model performance
• Broad experience in some of the following: data mining, text mining, data fusion, data stream processing, information retrieval, artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistical methods, distributed databases, knowledge management, knowledge representation, knowledge discovery
• Demonstrated experience in applying KDD techniques to real-world applications
• Experience in knowledge engineering, automated reasoning and planning also a plus

• MS degree in Computer Science or related field desired
• Well versed in system analysis and design techniques for application software, data, operation systems, programming languages and multi-system interfaces
• Strong programming skills in Java
• Experience with Common Lisp or other functional languages is a plus
• OO design and development experience to include familiarity with core OO design patterns
• Solid statistics and mathematical skills
• Experience with large data sets.
• Experience with handling high rate data streams is a plus.
