From: Ira Cohen
Date: 24 Feb 2006
Subject: Palo Alto, CA: Research scientist at Hewlett Packard Research Labs

Research scientist for the Statistical Learning, Inference, and Control (SLIC) project

The SLIC project at HP Labs (www.hpl.hp.com/research/slic) is focused on using statistical induction techniques and probabilistic models as a basis for automated decision making, management and control of complex IT systems. SLIC's work has already been published in the top CS system conferences, positioning it to lead in this novel and exciting application area for machine learning.

This work requires interdisciplinary research at the intersection between systems, probabilistic reasoning and pattern recognition, and control theory. We are looking for candidates with a PhD and a background in probability theory, machine learning, Bayesian networks and/or pattern recognition, with emphasis on applying the techniques to interesting real world problems. The ideal candidate will also have several years of experience in topics dealing with automation, diagnosis, system management in complex (large scale) systems environments.
