Subject: Des Moines, IA, USA: Specialist, Statistical Analysis at Nationwide Insurance

Nationwide Insurance, a $100 billion, top-five provider of property, casualty, and commercial insurance, and world class financial services has an immediate opportunity for a Specialist, Statistical Analysis in our Des Moines, IA office.

JOB SUMMARY: Performs statistical analyses, interpreting internal and external data sources to support the delivery of analytical services to internal clients. Responsible for the development and maintenance of predictive statistical models used to drive business objectives, as directed by supervisor. Extracts and prepares modeling data using SQL and SAS from multiple internal/external data sources.

RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Manager/Director.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Gathers, analyzes and interprets a wide variety of data to support business, customer and/or financial objectives.
2. Develops and maintains predictive statistical models to provide the functionality necessary to drive business objectives.
3. Selects data samples and analyzes collected information to understand business performance and modeling objectives.
4. Prepares reports, charts, tables and other visual aids as necessary.
5. Designs proper statistical analysis with guidance from supervisor.
6. Validates, tracks and updates models periodically and provides validation reports as requested.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Masters or PhD degree in quantitative field.

Experience: Up to Three years related experience with large data bases, analytical problem solving in a business environment, and with programming models and queries. Statistical experience should cover many of the following techniques: regression, generalized linear models, Decision Trees, Experimental Design, neural networks, genetic algorithms, Times Series, Markov Processes, and Optimization.

Knowledge: Working knowledge of data management, project management, data analysis, manipulation and extraction of multi-terabyte analytical platforms. Prefer some industry knowledge.

Skills/Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with business unit leadership and team leaders. Ability to efficiently manipulate large datasets using SQL. Ability to operate a personal computer and multiple statistical and business software packages (i.e., SAS, Hyperion, Salford Systems).
