Subject: On-line book: Data Mining Desktop Survival Guide, by Graham Williams

The Data Mining Desktop Survival Guide is an on-line resource for the data miner. It is under regular development, update and refinement, and includes overviews of algorithms, summaries of available tools, and, increasingly so, hands on practical guides to doing data mining using Rattle and the free and open source statistical package, R.

The author, Dr Graham Williams, has been a data mining researcher, teacher, and practitioner for over 15 years, with an extensive string of successful data mining applications in industry and government. He has been teaching data mining courses for over 10 years and has published many research papers in data mining. He is currently Principal Data Miner with the Australian Taxation Office, responsible for the technical oversight of the single largest data mining group in Australia. He is also co-chair of the Australasian Data Mining Conference, member of the steering committee of the Pacific Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, head of the ACT Branch of the Analytics Professionals of Australia, Adjunct Professor University of Canberra and Adjunct Associate Professor Australian National University.
