GDC 007 Data mining from Gamebryo

YOU MAY HAVE heard of Emergent Technologies Gamebryo engine, but you have probably never heard of their data mining tool called Metrics. It allows you to instrument and visually see data sets in your game letting you figure out problems hopefully before they are a problem.

If this sounds a little dry, look at the above graph. It shows how players died. You can show where a player died too, or what weapon caused their demise. The point of all this? If you see that the rocket launcher caused 97% of all deaths, you probably know the weapon is overpowered. If you see 83% of the deaths in a room are falling into a lava pit, you might want to make the path wider.
