Job Description
The Senior Manager, Consumer Insights (SMCI) is charged with providing knowledge and understanding about the HSN consumer, trends and shifts in the US retail and consumer landscapes and partnering with internal business units to transform insights into strategy. The SMCI serves as a consumer advocate throughout HSN and champions HSN's consumer-centric culture through the synthesis and integration of consumer research (primary and secondary), consumer analytics and market analysis into the development of strategy.

The SMCI will leverage his/her knowledge of the consumer, in coordination with the market research and consumer analytics teams, to identify opportunities to increase customer value through improved customer experience and increased engagement. The successful candidate must have a proven track record of analyzing and integrating information from disparate sources toward the development of robust, clear and actionable insights and recommendations, preferably in a retail environment. SMCI will work closely with business units throughout HSN, but especially merchandising, planning, programming and brand management. The candidate must be able to establish relationships, provide thought-leadership and influence others at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Regularly report and update Sr. Management with consumer, market and category insights and trends.
  • Collaborate with merchandising to drive consumer, market and category understanding and align insights with product strategies.
  • Proactively identify voids in consumer and market knowledge and address through collaboration with market research and consumer analytics.
  • Identify and evaluate current and future business opportunities through market research, consumer segmentation, and competitive analysis and market trends.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research into marketplace dynamics and understanding performance, strategic direction and tactics used by competition.
  • Manage and develop a small team of consumer insights analysts.
  • Ensure data integrity supports the conclusions and proposed recommendations.
  • Ensuring that the quality and timeliness of deliverables meet client expectations.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, marketing research, social sciences, economics or related discipline.
  • 5+ years experience in consumer research or category management, preferably in a retail or CPG environment.
  • Ability to simultaneously focus on the details and the "big picture."
  • Knowledge of established and emerging consumer research methodologies.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to research and analyze consumer and market data and provide recommendations to Senior Management.
  • Aptitude to interpret and synthesize multiple sources of information.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills required.
  • Experience with NPD, Spectra, ACNielsen or other market intelligence services.
  • Experience with or knowledge of SAS, SQL preferred, but not necessary.
Preferred Requirements:
  • MBA strongly preferred
