GRANT JACKSON Collexis Holdings Inc., the Columbia-based developer of search and knowledge-discovery software, began trading Monday over the counter under the symbol CLXS. Shares of Collexis’ common stock doubled in value the first day of trading, opening at $3 and closing at $6. Trading volume was 26,110 shares. Based on the first day’s trading and the volume of outstanding shares, the company’s market capitalization is $359 million. The public company was created from a reverse merger of Collexis’ U.S. subsidiary, headed by Irmo native Bill Kirkland, and the original parent company, Collexis B.V., a Dutch company that now is a subsidiary. ... The company’s technology builds conceptual profiles of text, called Fingerprints, from documents, Web sites, e-mails and other digitized content to create applications.
