Everett jeverett@parc.xerox.com Subject: Palo Alto, CA: Xerox Parc: Researchers in Scientific and Engineering Reasoning The Scientific and Engineering Reasoning Area (SERA) in the Systems and Practices Laboratory at Xerox PARC is recruiting researchers who have interest and skills in building knowledge rich systems that interact with communities of users. More specifically, we are looking for people interested in developing representations of specific domains, problems and solutions based on input from the context of a task, the content of the domain, and the participation of a community of users. Useful skills include knowledge representation systems, natural language interpretation, model based reasoning, probabilistic reasoning, and programming ability (e.g., Lisp and/or Java). Successful candidates will have a PhD (or commensurate experience) in artificial intelligence or a related field. Researchers will be working in an energetic multi-disciplinary team seeking to solve basic research problems around semi-automatic knowledge structuring, and to find ways of applying this in the context of a real community and knowledge base. The skills mentioned will be distributed among team members and also drawn from the greater PARC community. To apply please submit a cover letter explaining your interest in this project, a resume, and reprints of any applicable publications. Direct all materials to: SPL/SERA Administrator Xerox Palo Alto Research Center 3333 Coyote Hill Road Palo Alto, CA 94304 serajobs@parc.xerox.com fax: 650-812-4334 Applications by email will be accepted.
