One contest involves open-ended knowledge discovery, using clustering algorithms, rule discovery, and other methods for acquiring high-level knowledge from commercial data. The other contest involves building a classifier for detecting computer network intrusions from a very large database of network traffic records. The deadline for submitting entries is July 25. Awards will be presented at KDD-99 in August.
