The SIGKDD-99 Best Paper Awards, sponsored by Knowledge Stream Partners
(www.ksp.com), recognize the best efforts in the fundamental
and applied research categories. The winning papers were selected from
the outstanding KDD-99 papers nominated by the KDD-99 PC chairs,
and considering program committee reviews and recommendations.
The research papers were judged by the theoretical significance and
originality of their contribution. The application papers were judged
by the practical significance and current or potential usefulness of
the work. In both categories, the clarity and quality of presentation
were taken into account.
The winner in the Fundamental Research Category (6 first place votes) is:
