Microsoft Visiting Professor at IIT Kharagpur
Nominations and applications are invited for the Microsoft Visiting
Professor position in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering of
Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur. The Institute, the first among
the chain of six IITs is the largest and the most diversified among the
IITs. It was the first IIT to have started the undergraduate programme in
Computer Science and Engineering and has recently launched the postgraduate
diploma program in Information Technology through the Distance Learning mode
at its Calcutta and Bhubaneswar campuses. The institute also has a very
successful Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Park [STEP] with many
leading Information Technology companies participating as anchor companies.
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering of the institute attracts
some of the brightest students of India for their undergraduate and graduate
programmes. The faculty of the Department has made significant R&D
contributions and has been undertaking a number of innovative research and
consultancy projects sponsored by organizations in India and abroad in the
last two decades.

The Microsoft Visiting Professor position has been created with the personal
funds of IIT Kharagpur alumni working in Microsoft and the matching funds
from Microsoft Corporation. The positions are available during Autumn and
Spring Semesters. The Visiting Professor will be eligible for free furnished
accommodation at IIT Kharagpur campus and an office with internet facility
in the Department, besides US $ 7000 paid directly by the IIT Foundation,
Omaha, Nebraska, USA to meet travel, living and other miscellaneous
expenses. The Visiting Professor is free to seek additional support from
other sources, including his/her own present employer, the Rotary Foundation
etc.

The program provides an opportunity to participate in teaching some of the
brightest students in India and to interact with a group of outstanding
faculty actively involved in R&D and consultancy. Opportunities will also be
available to develop and set up new academic and R&D programs in association
with other faculty and to participate in collaborative programs with the
anchor IT companies in the STEP.

The present advertisement is for the Spring and Autumn Semester of the year
2000.
Eligibility: Candidates must have a Ph.D. and must have an outstanding
record of scholarly achievement and significant contribution to research,
development and / or design in the field of Computer Science and Engineering
or a related field.
