PKDD-2000 TUTORIAL - CALL FOR PROPOSALS

4th EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE
OF KNOWLEDGE DISCOVERY IN DATABASES
LYON, FRANCE, September 13-16, 2000

http://eric.univ-lyon2.fr/~pkdd2000

PKDD-2000 Tutorials Chair:

Willi Kloesgen (kloesgen@gmd.de)
German National Research Centre for Information Technology

For PKDD-2000, we are seeking proposals for 4 to 8 tutorials. An ideal
tutorial should stimulate synergy among the main sub-communities in
knowledge discovery, i.e. databases, machine learning, statistics, and
visualization. It may discuss novel data mining techniques, successful
application areas, and/or theme-oriented comprehensive surveys.

IMPORTANT DATES

February 28th : Tutorial proposals (kloesgen@gmd.de, postscript preferred)
March 14th : Notification of acceptance/rejection
September 13th: Tutorials

PROPOSAL DETAILS:

1) Apart from the title of the proposal, it must clearly identify
the intended audience, e.g., novice learners of statistical
   techniques, expert researchers of classification.

2) The proposal must identify the provisional amount of time intended.
For PKDD-2000, tutorials may be 2-hour, 3-hour or 4-hour long.

3) Enough materials should be included in the proposal to provide a
sense of both the scope and depth of the tutorial.

4) The proposal should include a short biography of each tutor
(including Web address). For the proposed subject matter, the
tutor must have appropriate qualification. The tutor must NOT
focus mainly on his/her research results. PKDD tutorials are
not the forum for promoting one's research or product.

For further information, please contact Willi Kloesgen (kloesgen@gmd.de).
