Neal J. Rothleder sends the following facts.
* The ratio of weight of diamonds to rock, in South Africa's diamond mines, is
typically 1 in 140,000,000 (1 ounce per 6,500 tons of rock). A 1/2 carat
diamond might require the excavation of 23 tons of rock.
* For gold, the concentration is typically in the range of 1 ounce per ton of
rock.
Most of our "mining" efforts for nuggets look quite good by comparison.
