Majority of respondents, along with myself, thought that they will in less than 5 years. One could even consider the current mutation of viruses to be already a form of primitive parasitic life that uses human hackers to propagate itself. Other comments were:

* If you spend a second to think about it, it's obvious that they wont.

* if you spend more than a second thinking about, the answer will not be so obvious (to first commentor)

* what all you need is knowledge base utilising virus

* Never if the mail app. producers close their gaping loophole. In 5 years if they keep it open to transmit their own viruses. If you count "chain letter" style transmission, they're already successfully parasitising human intelligence.
