Wavo Corporation, an industry leader in multimedia digital content
distribution, has an immediate opening for a Senior Research
Programmer at its News Technology division in Roseland, New
Jersey. Applicants should have a B.S. or M.S. degree in computer
science or a related field, several years of C or C++ programming
experience in a Unix environment (e.g., Solaris, Linux), and
demonstrated expertise in one or more of the areas listed below. The
position will be open until filled.

The ideal candidate should have excellent written and oral
communications skills, a strong mathematical background, and industry
experience in one or more of the following areas: information
retrieval, statistical analysis of text, discriminant analysis, and/or
artificial intelligence (e.g., pattern recognition, natural language
processing). Knowledge of XML, Java and Perl as well as experience
with system software development, databases and search engines (e.g.,
Oracle, Verity, Metamorph), plus some familiarity with Windows NT (in
addition to the required Unix experience) would be a positive factor.

Applicants should have an interest in building robust and scalable
implementations of state-of-the- art methods for text
classification. The position involves the commercialization of
research work for automatically routing real-time newswire
articles. (A prototype of this system is already deployed in one of
Wavo�s products.) The position may also include support of ongoing
research in other areas such as cross-language querying, thematic
analysis and automatic summarization.

At the Roseland location, the new staff member would join a team of 3
Ph.D.s, 6 programmers and 2 library scientists (about 150 people work
for Wavo in total). The work environment is highly professional and
flexible (no fixed hours, no dress code). To thrive in this

be self-motivated and willing to meet occasional tight deadlines and
above all be a team player.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Compensation may include stock options.
