                     Data Mining for Intrusion Detection
		     Florida Institute of Technology
                           Starting in Spring 2001

Capable and motivated graduate students and a postdoc are sought to assist
in research on using data mining methods for intrusion detection. The main
goal of the project is to develop data analysis algorithms for building
models that can detect novel attacks. We will be working with our
collaborators at North Carolina State University and Columbia University.

Preferred background include:

   * machine learning and data mining
   * intrusion detection
   * computer networks and distributed computing

Successful applicants will assist in:

  1. developing novel learning and mining techniques for intrusion detection
  2. designing and building software prototypes to realize and evaluate the
     techniques
  3. writing and submitting our results for publication

The project is partially supported by DARPA and successful RA
applicants will be provided with a stipend and tuition
remission. Salary of the successful postdoc applicant commensurates
with qualification and experience. The postdoc appointment is one year
and can be extended depending upon the availability of funding.

Research Assistantship Applicants:

   * Send to Prof. Philip Chan your curriculum vita that includes:
o Educational experience (degrees, GPA, transcripts, ...)
o Research experience (projects, publications, ...)
o GRE General and Computer Science Subject Test scores
        o TOEFL score (international student)
o Contact information (email, address, phone) of three references
   * Apply to the PhD program in computer science at Florida Tech (qualified
BS holders can be admitted to the PhD program directly)

Postdoc Applicants:

   * Send to Prof. Philip Chan your curriculum vita (by Jan 15, 2001 for
     full consideration) that includes:
o Educational experience (degrees, GPA, transcripts, ...)
o Research experience (projects, publications, ...)
        o Two representative publications
o Contact information (email, address, phone) of three references
