I have learned with great sadness that Jan Zytkow has passed away on
Jan 16.  Jan was a well-known researcher in the area of scientific
discovery, a pioneer in machine learning, an author of many
publications and books, an organizer of many conferences and meetings,
a wonderful person, and a friend.  Those who knew him will miss him.

 This is to let you know that our friend Jan Zytkow passed
 away yesterday at 11:35am. He had open heart surgery one week ago
 because of cancer. Jan was a wonderful person who will be
 missed by all of us.
