Subject: Boston, MA, USA: Database Programmer/Production Support Technician at Fidelity Personal Investments

This position is in the Marketing Analysis team, which reports outcomes for direct mail and outbound telemarketing retail campaigns. The team runs a production system (APM) that produces automated reports on campaigns, and conducts numerous ad hoc reporting to support database marketing management. The person in this position will support users, contribute to new initiatives, and provide conceptual input that integrates both technical requirements and business understanding. The ideal candidate is a creative self-starter who wants an opportunity to learn and take on challenging projects. The position will be filled at the senior or manager level depending on experience.

This position will serve as the primary user support for the Marketing Analysis team. Support activities will include the following:

  • Investigate problems and numeric discrepancies in the monthly production cycle
  • Triage unix and software problems
  • Develop custom tools and simplify procedures to facilitate analysts� productivity
  • Assist analysts in debugging their SAS code
  • Create and maintain procedural documentation and data dictionaries
  • Train new analysts in unix, SAS programming, and the APM application environment

In addition, the position will be the primary programmer/developer for various projects and contribute to all departmental initiatives. As needed, these projects will involve SAS programming, database analysis, testing application enhancements, writing functional specifications, and working with both technical teams and business users. Specific projects will vary, but will include some of the current departmental initiatives:

  • Create new reports for senior management
  • Validate new data sources and migrate APM production system to them
  • Migrate production system from SAS v6.12 to v8.1
  • Implement new statistical procedures into the existing production system
  • Implement a multi-stage, triggered campaign reporting system
  • Review and enhance financial reporting
  • Load historical campaign results into new campaign repository
  • Migrate existing APM reports from paper form to BRIO online reports
  • Develop automated data auditing procedures
  • Validate existing and develop new report metrics
  • Validate and update householding logic
  • Build front-end to data warehouse to facilitate ad hoc queries

Required Skills: 2-3 years of programming experience and/or experience working with either desktop or server-based databases (any of MS-Access, Lotus Approach, Paradox, FoxPro, dBase, Sybase, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.). Good business sense, effective communication skills, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, ability and desire to work in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications: SAS (Statistical Analysis Software) programming experience strongly preferred. Unix operating system and scripting, BRIO, experience in database marketing, familiarity with the Marketing Information Group�s current production environment and APM application.
