Subject: Vienna, Austria: Bioinformatics / Data Mining Scientists (Heads of Laboratory) at Novartis Forschungsinstitut

The Novartis Forschungsinstitut (NFI) in Vienna, Austria is a research centre of Novartis, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. The Institute focuses on the discovery of drugs modulating the immune response in various diseases with an emphasis on dermatological conditions. Research is carried out in a stimulating international multidisciplinary environment where highly qualified scientists work together towards the common goal of developing innovative new drugs. We have currently two (2) job openings in

BIOINFORMATICS/DATA MINING

and we seek talented individuals to complement our efforts geared towards identifying new drug targets. The successful candidates will provide in-depth computational analysis of experimentally determined target molecules and will also contribute to the in-silico identification of disease-relevant genes in an intensive co-operation with experimental scientists and computational biologists. The positions are at the Head of Laboratory level and are initially for a fixed 5-year term with a possibility of extension.

The requirements:

  • PhD in bioinformatics, biology or biochemistry;
  • extensive, proven experience in bioinformatics/data mining applications: database searches, image analysis, identification of evolutionary relationships, gene expression analysis, protein function prediction;
  • programming experience under Unix (C/C++, Java, Perl , HTML);
  • excellent teamwork and communication skills.
