eWeek reports that SAS Institute Inc. announced a definitive agreement to acquire ABC Technologies Inc., a company it had worked with for the past 18 months to develop an XML-based standard for scorecarding applications. The acquisition of Beaverton, Ore.-based ABC Technologies will strengthen SAS' position in performance management applications, SAS officials said.

ABC develops software for activity-based cost and profit management, balanced scorecarding, resource planning, value chain and supply chain management and business intelligence under the Oros brand. It uses the umbrella term Active Enterprise Management to describe all of its applications.
