Data Mining User Event Days 2002, Chemnitz, Germany

Chemnitz / June 28, 2002 - The Data Mining User Event Days 2002 were characterized by a worldwide interest. More than 220 national and international guests came to the three-day event to discuss and to inform themselves on topics such as Data Mining and Analytical CRM.

The highlight of the User Event Days was the awarding of the Data Mining Cup on June 26, 2002. The task of the this year's cup consisted in the development of an expressive analysis model in the energy sector, based on given data. About 400 participants from all over the world had registered to take part in the contest, and 119 participants then submitted an appropriate model. While the June 26, 2002 was reserved for the awarding, the two other days focused on a Data Mining specialist conference where 32 specialists from well-known enterprises, in different sessions, gave lectures to topics such as "Data Mining in Mail-Order Business", "Data Mining in Banking and Insurance Sector", "Data Mining in Energy Sector", "E-Commerce", etc.

"The brisk participation in the User Event Days and the high reception again show how topical the Data Mining is at present. Moreover, the interesting and varied lecturers' program contributed to the success of this event," says Dr. Andreas Ittner, managing director of the Prudential Systems Software GmbH. "The Data Mining is a unique technology whose use will revolutionize the enterprise areas Marketing, Service and Sales in the coming years."

Beside Manfred Roux, Director Data Management Development, Data Management Division, IBM Software Group, also Dr. Peter Gentsch, Managing Director at pepper technologies AG and responsible there for the areas of Web Intelligence and Data Mining, as well as Dr. Wolfgang Martin, Independent Analyst und META Group Fellow sought for the "homo hybridicus" and reported on current trends of the Data Mining development.

The three-day Data Mining User Event Days were made possible by many sponsors who all had devoted themselves to the topic of Data Mining and CRM. The main sponsors were the enterprises SPSS GmbH Software and Accenture that, during the sessions, also gave lectures on the topics of Data Mining and Analytical CRM from their individual point of view.
