MeetingsFrom: Becky Couchman Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 10:46:58 +0100 Subject: Statistical Learning Theory Symposium, Nov 14-15, Paris, France 22 July 2002: On 14-15 November 2002 a Statistical Learning Theory and Applications event, will be held at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers (CNAM), Paris, France. The event, sponsored by KXEN, is aimed at research and operational people in both statistics and computer science fields. Over the two days delegates will discuss the future development of Statistical Learning Theory (SLT) and its visionary approach to predictive modelling problems. Additionally it will reveal how SLT has brought significant results in fields such as pattern recognition and decision making algorithms. SLT is well known in the fields of artificial intelligence, neural networks and machine learning. The event will include presentations by Vladimir Vapnik (NEC Research Institute, Princeton, USA), Bernhard Schölkopf (Max Planck Society, Germany), David J Hand (Imperial College, London) and Jerome H Friedman (Stanford University, Palo Alto, USA). KXEN, the conference sponsor, offers a state-of-the-art suite of predictive and descriptive modelling engines for scoring, classification and clustering, based on Statistical Learning Theory. Call for papers: Suggestions for conference papers of 30 minutes can be sent, in English, to the conference Scientific Committee before September 15, 2002, on subjects relating to Statistical Learning Theory: Support Vector Machine (SVM), regularization, model validation, model sorting, VC dimension, reproducing kernel-based embeddings into Hilbert spaces and specific algorithms.
