Text mining used to fight terrorism

Sep 11, 2002. Bizjournals reports that Language Analysis Systems (http://www.las-inc.com), has developed a technology that helps track commonalties in people's names. It has been used as a data mining software for customer relationship management, but now it's a tool in the war against terrorism. The database contains one billion names from over 200 countries.

Soon after Sept. 11, the company's technology was being used to track down terrorist names at South Florida flight schools. Since then, his has been a whirlwind ride into the world of homeland security and the top secret intelligence activities.
